Who Should Apply?

  • Those interested in learning first-hand about the multiple dimensions of poverty in the U.S.
  • Those who want to be challenged to deal with the issues of poverty you will experience every day
  • Those who are prepared to experience a poverty immersion program
  • Those who want to learn about yourself in a way you didn’t think possible

Selection Process

Current full-time JCU sophomore and junior students who will be graduating in May 2023 or later are eligible to apply.

Applicants will be evaluated on

  • Concern for and understanding about poverty
  • Academic record (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8)
  • Relevant volunteer and/or work experience
  • Extracurricular activities (e.g. immersion trips, campus organizations)
  • Quality of references (two required; see below for details)

Applications are due by November 22, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. and must be submitted electronically.

Two references are required. At least one reference must be from a full-time JCU faculty member who has been your instructor in a course. The second reference may be from a full-time JCU staff member or part-time faculty member. They can email their reference letter directly to pmetres@jcu.eduÂ
