The ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥ Psychology Department is deeply committed to providing research opportunities for all interested students. See below for your opportunities.Ìý

  • Check out faculty research interests on their profile pages. We are always looking for help from interested students.Ìý
  • We have plenty of opportunities to get course credit for your research experience.
    • In PS299, students work as a research assistant for one semester for 1-3 credits. Contact a Psychology faculty member whose research interests you for more information.
    • In PS301, you conduct your own research study in a small group. This is a required course for completion of the Psychology Major.
    • In PS401, you can conduct your own independent research project in a class led by Dr. Yost.
    • Finally, PS497N and PS499 enable you to work one on one with a faculty member who supervised your research.Ìý
  • Finally, we strongly recommend you present at one or more of the following conferences:
    • MPA: 6-12 students routinely present their research at the Midwestern Psychological Association Annual Meeting in Chicago in April. There is a student research competition. Contact Dr. Yost or Dr. Tarescavage for more details.Ìý
    • Eastern Colleges: 3-6 neuroscience students present their research at this conference very year. Contact Dr. Murphy for more details.Ìý
    • OUPRC: The Ohio Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference was started by Dr. Jan Larsen, an emeritus professor from ¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥. The location is rotated every year but is typically within a 2-hour drive of JCU. The conference is held every April. Contact Dr. Yost or Dr. Tarescavage for more details. 2022 conference will be held April 9, 2022 at Muskingum University. Registration forms can be found atÌý
    • OPA: The Ohio Psychological Association hosts student research presentations every April in Columbus. Students enter a poster presentation contest and winners are able to publish their findings in the OPA newsletter.ÌýÌýThere is also a cash prize. Contact Dr. Tarescavage for more details.Ìý
    • Celebration of Scholarship: The Celebration of Scholarship is held every Spring in the Dolan Science Center. Students are strongly encouraged to submit their research for a poster or oral presentation. Contact Dr. TarescavageÌý´Ç°ù Dr. Masterson for more information.Ìý
