The Provost’s Office and ITS are co-presenting a webinar called Strategies for Flexible Instruction on Wednesday, July 22 at 2:00 pm. They will examine the HyFlex model – a flexible framework that offers a combination of asynchronous, synchronous, and face-to-face options (hybrid) in a course that provides multiple options for student participation (flexible). They will also demo the Zoom-enabled spaces available on campus in the Fall of 2020, and explore strategies to engage remote and local students in a single class session. There will be an opportunity for questions. The presentation will be available afterward for those who cannot attend.

In the fall of 2019, Jonathan H. Westover (Associate Professor of Organizational Leadership, Academic Director, Center for Social Impact, Utah Valley University) launched a new, fully online version of hisOrganizational Development and Change service-learning class, which includes an intensive, semester-long service-learning consulting project that teams of students complete with a community partner. He hasbeen teaching this class for 9 years, in both the traditional F2F and hybrid modalities, but hasdecided to design an online version to provide more options for our students. The challenge has been to find ways to retain the heart of the course, a meaningful and effective service-learning OD team project consulting experience, within a fully online course.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many institutions had to rapidly shift from in-person to online learning. The Fusion Course aims to provide critical training and support for faculty as they adapt to online teachingand offers instruction for how to integrate community engagement methodologies into existing curricula to improve the quality of course delivery and foster student engagement.

Through this faculty development course, learn how to infuse community-based learning into online courses to give students hands-on, real-world experience that will strengthen learning, create connections to the larger community, and improve student retention rates.

How do we make sense of a global pandemic that has caused millions ofdeaths around the world? In this special summer course, Canisius faculty, alumni and guest presenters will explore the many ways humankind has responded to disease-related crises throughout history through acombination of PowerPoint and video presentations, recorded interviews with subject-matter experts, films, video chats and other online discussions, readings and access to an expanded reading list.

Participants are encouraged to interact with as many modules as they would like, whether that means one session or all of them. This is a free, non-credit-bearing course.
