¾ÅÐãÖ±²¥â€™s Biology program concentrating in Medical Laboratory Sciences offers a dynamic path to becoming a vital Medical Lab Scientist in just four years.

For the first three years, you’ll complete essential coursework at JCU, building a strong foundation in biology. In your fourth year, you’ll immerse yourself in hands-on learning at the Cleveland Clinic, where you’ll complete your elective requirements and gain practical experience. This unique combination of classroom learning and real-world training prepares you for the national certification exam.

Graduating from JCU, you’ll enter the workforce with the skills and knowledge to excel as a healthcare professional, ready to make a significant impact in the medical field.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

While at JCU, Biology students must take the following courses to concentrate in Medical Laboratory Sciences:

  • Principles of Biology I, II, II with labs (BL1500, BL1505, BL1600, BL1605, BL1700, BL1705)
  • Cell Biology (BL3010) or Developmental Biology (BL3020)
  • Genetics (BL2130)
  • General Chemistry I and II with labs (CH1410, CH1430, CH 1420, CH 1440)
  • One BL elective course – Organism to Biosphere
  • Organic Chemistry I and II with labs (CH2210, CH2230, CH2220, CH2240)
  • Microbiology (BL3100) or Medical Microbiology (BL4100)
  • Calculus/Analytical Geometry (MT1350) or Intermediate Statistics (DATA2500)
  • Immunology (BL4710)
  • Statistics for Biological Sciences (DATA2280)

In addition, students will be required to complete all standard core requirements.

APPLICATION & ADMISSION PROCESS

Sophomore Year: Request application materials and submit the $50 application from MLS@ccf.org fee by the end of your second year.
 

Junior Year: Submit your application with official transcripts to MLS@ccf.org by December 1st. Selected candidates will be invited to interview throughout the year. Ensure all prerequisite coursework is complete by the end of your junior year.
 

Senior Year: Acceptance letters are sent by mid-January. The program starts in July of your senior year. Grades are reported back to JCU for graduation.
